Although classified as a right-arm, slow-medium bowler, Ajantha Mendis is a spinner who bowls a mixture of googlies, offbreaks, top-spinners, flippers and legbreaks.
Batsmen have been confounded by the variety of deliveries he has up his sleeve and are at a loss to figure out what his stock delivery is.
Mendis was a prolific wicket-taker for Sri Lanka Army in the 2007-08 season and had taken 46 wickets at an average of 10.56 and strike-rate of 31 from six matches. His performances did not go unnoticed for Mendis was called up to the Sri Lanka squad for the tour of West Indies in April 2008 - Cricinfo Staff March 2008.

Wow good spinner. I know this video doesn't do much justice because I saw him live and he really bamboozled a lot of the players. These highlights are too short.
If you can read it from the hand you'll be ok. Murali on the other hand is so unorthodox that no one really can say confidently they pick him 10 out 10 times. There will only be one Murali!

I am a regular on the Dilmah forum and got your details from a member. Thanks a lot for the videos. Being in Madrid there is no way of watching cricket. As far as Ajantha is concerned he will definitely make the grade: not only does he bowl well but also intelligently. How many bowlers are there in the world who can bowl orthodox off spin, doosras, leg spin, googlies and the flipper with such control? Good luck to him, to Sri Lanka and to cricket in general.
