Ex-captain Hashan Tillakaratne has been appointed Sri Lanka's national cricket team manager for the upcoming test and limited-overs home series against India.
Tillakaratne's appointment will be formally announced at a news conference later Tuesday, Sri Lanka Cricket media manager Shane Fernando said.
The 41-year-old Tillakaratne played in 83 tests and scored 4,545 runs. In 200 one-day internationals Tillakaratne compiled 3,789 runs.
He was a regular national player for 15 years from 1989 and led the team in 10 test matches from 2003. - AP

I hear that Hashan has not been approved by the sports minister because he is the party organizer in the same area as the sports minister. He has been asked to choose between cricket and politics. Its funny since the sports minister plays both cricket and politics together to perfection. Why is it that Arjuna Ranatunga has not been asked to choose between cricket and politics since he is holding the post of Chairman of SLC while been a MP? It will a tragedy if Hashan has to step down.
What the hell is wrong with Sri Lanka?? Why does the sposrts minister have a say in all this???
Tillakaratne removed as team boss

Hashan Tillakaratne was removed from his position as Sri Lanka team manager for the upcoming Test and one-day series against India on Thursday - just a day after the former captain was named as Shriyan Samararatne's successor.
Samararatne's contract expired after the Asia Cup earlier this month, and 41-year-old Tillakaratne was appointed on Tuesday.
But sports minister Gamini Lokuge refused to endorse the decision due to political reasons, the Daily Mirror reported.
Tillakaratne's appointment was also made without the approval of the executive committee of the interim committee running cricket in Sri Lanka, the report stated.
